Welcome to the Counselling Postgraduate web pages. Postgraduate studies in counselling at Tabor Adelaide offers three qualifications for students wanting to study here. The Graduate Certificate in Counselling is a four subject course that offers professional development opportunities for anyone interested in learning more about counselling or who desire some basic counselling skills to supplement their work in their profession or employment situation. The Graduate Certificate is also used as a bridging course into the Graduate Diploma in Counselling for those who have not had any practical and/or theoretical training in Counselling.

The Graduate Diploma in Counselling is the second highest qualification Tabor Adelaide offers in Counselling. This course has a coursework and strong practice component with thorough supervision requirements. Coursework is chosen from a number of offerings in counselling, and other relevant fields, available at Tabor Adelaide. The practice component is conducted at Life Design Counselling and Education, the counselling centre connected with Tabor Adelaide. For those who want to complete a Master of Counselling at Tabor Adelaide the Graduate Diploma forms the first year of this award.

The highest qualification available in Counselling at Tabor Adelaide is the Master of Counselling. The second year of this award can be utilised by combining a practicum internship with research, or completing a major research thesis. The internship takes place outside of Tabor Adelaide at a mutually agreed upon site, between the student, Counselling faculty, and those responsible for the site at which the internship will take place. The research coursework component of the Master in Counselling involves a research methodology subject, and a research proposal subject. If the internship has been taken as part of the Masters degree then the research thesis component is a 12,000 or 20,000 word thesis. A 40,000 word thesis is required if the internship has not been chosen as part of the Master in Counselling.

The major focus of Postgraduate Counselling at Tabor Adelaide is on the development of counselling skills at an in-depth professional level, preparing students for employment in the human services and counselling professions. At Master degree level the focus is on further honing practical skills and/or developing solid research knowledge and skills. Because of the practicum component in the Graduate Diploma the Graduate Diploma and Master in Counselling are not available externally. Students wishing to complete these courses internally are able to access the government FEE-HELP loan system to avoid immediate up-front payments.

Postgraduate Counselling at Tabor Adelaide is characterised by a strong supportive ethos with a diverse approach to counselling practice, and a qualitative emphasis in research. With this ethos and the training that undertaking Postgraduate Counselling at Tabor Adelaide can offer, then Tabor Adelaide is worth considering as the place for you to undertake postgraduate counsellor training and development.

Every blessing on your journey,
